"MS Statendam" Arrives
Thursday 8th December. The first cruise ship for the season stopped at Pitcairn today. The 55,000 ton Statendam arrived in calm to moderate seas with approximately 1,100 passengers.
Security was tight and everyone including baggage containing items for sale were scanned and searched.
Trading time was limited as the ship only planned to stop for four hours. During this time the ship cruised around the Island and trading was brisk. At the end of trading the Islanders sang the traditional "In the Sweet, bye and bye" and the "Good bye" songs then it was time to leave.
This is the fourth ship from Holland American Line to have stopped at Pitcairn in as many years. The other three ships are the Amsterdam, the Rotterdam, and the Prinsendam.
