A Historic Move

Wednesday 9th February A historic memorandum of understand was signed yesterday between the Governor of Pitcairn, Mr. Richard Fell and the President of French Polynesia, Mr. Oscar Manutahi Temaru bringing the two Pacific communities closer together.

The memorandum means that the two communities will work together to promote and to strengthen  exchanges and cooperation in areas such as commercial, economic, tourism and cultural development.

The first supply ship to Pitcairn via French Polynesian was sent as a trial run last December and its visit proved very successful.  Cargo was shipped from New Zealand in containers to Tahiti, repacked, then shipped to Pitcairn on the French Polynesian supply ship Toporo VIII.

Any goods now purchased in French Polynesia for export to Pitcairn will be VAT free.
